Helena Deane is a Cambridge Ruskin University and Berlin Business School of Economics graduate with a First Class (Hons) BA Degree in European Business. Helena has also been accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management London in the area of Management Development, Business Sustainability & Innovation. She has over 20 years of extensive and varied experience of doing business in international markets.
During her stint as the Manager of GMIT Castlebar Innovation in Business Centre (now iHub), Helena has worked with cutting-edge technology companies and has been exposed to the most recent developments and trends in various industry sectors through supporting development of entrepreneurs behind innovative concepts. She has been appointed to a number of mentoring panels in Mayo and Galway.
Helena is fluent in several languages and has worked on a number of projects with international companies or involving international best practice. She is also very active and engaged in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer. She is currently also working under the Horizon 2020, the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever. She supports consortia in their bid development (under topics such as ICT, Clean Sky 2, the SME Instrument and Fast Track to Innovation) and is also an Expert Evaluator for the H2020 SME Instrument on behalf of the European Commission. Assignments mainly concern research and innovation, falling within the Horizon 2020 programme designed to address the challenges Europe is facing through funding excellent science, technology and innovation. They may include evaluation of proposals, monitoring of actions, preparation, implementation or evaluation of programmes and design of policies - this includes the Horizon 2020 Advisory Groups.
